The closer you get to your destiny the smaller the crowd becomes

By Nina Steele

The UniverseThey say you know the truth when you hear it, and boy, did this one resonate with me. As I have said many times before, I am no longer into religion and haven’t been for a very long time. Spirituality however, is an integral part of my life. What’s the difference? The difference is that, while religion teaches you to pray to another being for your salvation, spirituality teaches you that you are the master of your own destiny and that the choices you make are what will determine whether you rise or fall.

As a truth seeker, what I have come to learn as I grow older is that, one should keep an open mind when it comes to knowledge, because the truth can come in places where we expect it the least. That’s what happened when I stumbled on the title of this article. It was part of a sermon given by Bishop TD Jakes. It came to me in the form of a video clip, via my Facebook feed.

I don’t know about you but I am now an avid viewer of these videos, for the simple reason that some of them often turn out to be complete gems. And so was this particular one. I now make a point of listening to videos by Bishop TD Jakes, simply because he often makes a lot of sense and what he says tends to be about universal truths. Like I said before, I keep an open mind about where to find the truth. Just because I no longer go to church and no longer believe in religion, doesn’t mean I should automatically reject anything that comes out of the mouth of a religious person, even when what they are saying makes perfect sense to me.

Going back to the quote that “The closer you get to your destiny the smaller the crowd becomes”, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I knew instantly that what he was saying was true, because that has been my own experience for quite some time.
Courage
Indeed, the older I get, the more obvious it becomes to me that to reach the kind of growth that I know is part of my journey in this lifetime, I simply cannot keep having some people in my life on a regular basis. And when I say some people, I mean close family members and friends. I cannot deny my path just so I can accommodate them. To do so will lead to a great deal of suffering for me, and of course, there is no way I am going to allow that to happen.

It is absolutely clear that the closer we get to our life’s goal or destiny, the more difficult the choices we are forced to make. That’s when having courage becomes a must. Those with courage will be able to withstand the type of criticisms that will inevitably ensue. People will call you selfish and ungrateful, particularly those who helped you in the past. But since your intention is not to hurt them, but to save your soul, those negative vibes they send your way, and all that resentment they hold against you, will not get to you. Since you are doing this for the very salvation of your soul, the whole of the Universe is with you. And when you have the backing of the Universe, no one can touch you.

So, it doesn’t matter how much help someone gave you in the past. As you grow spiritually, there are some people that you have to leave behind. It is either going all the way to where the Universe wants you to go, or being dragged back down by people who no longer serve a purpose for you. As the saying goes, ‘what good will it be for someone to gain the world but lose his soul’? Just think about that.
