Hello Nina,

It is a week today from the sad day my adorable Westie passed away. I am still so devastated and I miss him a lot because I was his mummy. He gave me so many years of joy and companionship that I would cherish for the rest of my life. He'll forever be irreplaceable and unforgettable. I know that you, Nina, and the lovely community of nonparents.com will be able to know exactly how I feel.

Sorry, I completely missed this post. Not sure why, but I wasn't notified of it. Sorry for your loss. I take it that Westie was your pet. Although my husband and I do not have a pet, we have a fondness for both cats and dogs and regularly come across dogs and their owners on our Sunday walks. You are in my thoughts. Sending you hugs.

Thanks a lot Nina. Westie is short for West Highland Terrier (dog), you may know the breed, they are adorable. I still miss him so much.

As you can see, my knowledge of dog breeds is not that great. I have just done a google search and yes beautiful and adorable dogs they are. Once again, sorry for your loss.

Hi Mayflower. How are you doing? I didn't want to ask you this at the time because it would have been completely insensitive. Will you be getting another dog?

Hi Nina, and thank you for your concern. I'm feeling much better now. First I was much against the idea of getting another dog mainly because of the fact that I didn't want to go through so much pain when they die. Having learnt now that it is a fact of life, I decided to get another dog in the near future, perhaps on the first months of next year.
Hope you are OK and send you my best wishes.

I totally understand when you say you were reluctant to get another dog to avoid yourself the same pain. Glad to hear that with time, your outlook on the whole issue has changed and that you are healing from your loss. Yes I am well and wish you the very best too.

Hello Nancy, I can recommend "The Unravelling: High Hopes and Missed Opportunities in Iraq", by Emma Sky, a fellow non-parent. Emma Sky was a civilian who went to Iraq to help after the war and ended up being made the governor of a whole province. After I read her book, I interviewed her for this website and also wrote an article about it. Both links are below. If you do read the book, let me know what you think.

Hello Nancy. I hope your new year is going well. You said in a previous thread that you will begin your search for a new dog at the start of this year. How is that going?

Hello Nina and Happy 2020! As you rightly said in a previous thread, 2020 has a ring to it, a really good one and I'm looking forward to it. It is nice of you to remember about my search for a new dog, in fact I'm looking into it and working towards it. I've been busy painting and decorating and installing a stair fence since we are going to get a puppy. The reason being that I want the same breed and born around the same time as the previous dog also it will have the same name. May sound crazy but with dogs I think I can try repeat history as close as possible. I'll keep you posted!

Hello,

You might want to check tomorrow's BBC2 documentary '7.7 Billion people and counting' (Tuesday 21/01/20 at 9.00pm). It focus on the difficult subject of overpopulation and the impact on our planet resources.

Thank you Nancy. Will do. Yep, that is definitely a documentary to watch. Feel free to give me a shout whenever you come across something like that. It is much appreciated.
