Christopher Walken attributes much of his success to the fact that he has no children

Christopher WalkenTo say that Christopher Walken has had a prolific career, would be entirely appropriate. He is so much in demand that he has seldom been out of work since his career took off in the early 50s. To date, he has appeared in well over 100 films and counting. Aside from being an A list movie star, as far as his private life is concerned, he is one a few high profile actors to have had a successful love life as well. He has been married to Georgianne Walken since 1969. The couple, as previously stated, have no children.

In a 2013 interview for The Guardian, when asked if his career would have been possible if he had been a father? Walken replied: “absolutely not”. He goes on to say: “I’m sure many of the kids I knew as a child would have continued in showbusiness, but they had kids of their own, had to do something dependable. I didn’t, so I could get by even in periods of unemployment”. He started acting at the age of 5, hence his reference to other child actors he started off with.

Apart from being a really good actor, another reason that may explain how Walken ended up making so many movies, and still is, is down to the fact that he rarely says no to acting opportunities. He is said to view every acting role he takes on as a learning experience. His popularity is even more remarkable considering that he generally plays the role of the villain.

A typical example is his character in the 1990 movie ‘The Comfort of Strangers’, currently showing on Netflix. In it, he plays the role of a highly damaged and domineering man, who, along with his equally damaged wife (played by Helen Mirren) are avowed sadomasochists. His character is morally bankrupt, yet his acting is so superb that he manages to captivate viewers throughout. No wonder he has a cult following. Acting seems to come so naturally to him. He has this rare ability in making each role he plays, his own.

I like it when my favourite celebrities also end up being decent human beings as well. With so many failed marriages in Hollywood, it’s highly refreshing to see an actor of his calibre still married to the same woman, after 50 years. It says a lot about him as a person. Anyone who can withstand the type of temptation there is for celebrities at that level, has my absolute respect.
